Stupid Decisions

A follow up to my post in February (yes it has been that long) on leadership essentials. Leaders sometimes make decisions that are clearly stupid, at least to everyone else. When that happens it is usually because one or more of these components are present:

  1. Decisions made before all the facts are known
  2. Decisions made without input from stakeholders
  3. Decisions made from the perspective of the leader not those being led

Leadership Essentials

The list of good leadership characteristics is long. However, these four are usually present in successful leaders. They.....
  1. listen
  2. put people first
  3. know their stuff
  4. aren't stupid when making decisions

Power and Control

Great leaders give away power but are always in control.

Some leaders do not give away power in fear of losing control. Other leaders give away power to avoid the responsibilities of control. Great leaders achieve both.
